Eat Pray Wear Love: Best Products For Curly Hair In A Dry Climate

Best Products For Curly Hair In A Dry Climate

I get a lot of questions about my hair. 1. What products are best for curly hair? 2. How do you keep you hair looking so healthy in such a dry climate? 3. You're naturally brunette, so how do you keep your hair looking so shiny with all the blonde in it?

It's  honestly taken me years to master my hair routine. As you know, I have naturally curly hair, and pretty much fought it my entire life, by trying to wear it stick straight. I know now what a blessing it is to be able to wear it both curly and straight, but that lesson was a hard one to overcome! (Curly haired girls, you with me?!) Everyone's hair is different, and I only know what works for mine, so that's what this post with focus on - the best products for a curly haired girl in a dry climate.

DevaCurl NoPoo (last seen here) - This NoPoo (shampoo) is life changing. It's a cleansing product that doesn't dry out your hair. My curly haired girls know how harsh regular shampoo can be on your hair, and this was designed with that notion in mind. It doesn't have any of the harsh chemicals that usually add to dryness, so you can cleanse your hair worry free. The entire DevaCurl line is fabulous for girls with curly hair. Some other favorites of mine are the DevaCurl Conditioner, Coconut Curl Styler Cream and  Ultra Define Gel.

For a more budget friendly option, I alternate DevaCurl products with the following:

Loreal EverCreme Deep Nourish Shampoo and Loreal EverCreme Deep Nourish Conditioner are two shampoo and conditioning treatments I have been using lately, and love! And, this is not a harsh/drying shampoo. It actually nourishes my hair, and the combination leave my hair looking super shiny and feeling extra soft. At about $7.99 a bottle, it's a steal.

For curly haired days, my hair needs extra moisture to define my curls and ban frizz. I start by locking in the moisture with SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk. Then, I spritz a healthy amount of sea salt spray on my locks, alternating between using either Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi Sea Salt Texturizing Spray or Not Your Mother's Sea Salt Texturizing Spray (using whichever product I have on hand). I finish off with a styling mousse or gel for added definition. Lately I've been loving R+Co Chiffon Styling Mousse. I work all the product into my hair and then finish off with a light blow-dry. (I actually use an old blow dryer on curly hair days, because my new one that I use for blow-outs is too powerful and will cause frizz!)

For straight hair days, my routine is pretty minimal. I still use the same shampoo and conditioning treatments. However, I usually go several days without shampooing my hair. Like, as many days as possible! (I usually go anywhere between 3-5, but have been known to go a whole week sometimes, depending on how good my blowout is and level of activity that week.) I typically use a healthy amount of dry shampoo, to combat extra oil during non-wash days. I love this budget friendly version, by Batiste. If you are looking to splurge on a product, I can't get enough of Dry Bar's Dry Shampoo and Dry Conditioner. I know what you're thinking, Dry Conditioner? Trust me, if you go several days in between washes, this is complete magic on dry ends! I do believe that going several days between washes is what allows my locks to stay so healthy and naturally hydrated. A good dry shampoo and conditioner regimen, help to add longevity too.

Beside that my hair routine is pretty minimal. For days when I need a little extra love, I will do a hair mask. I love this one by Briogeo. It's a little pricey, but worth every penny, if you ask me.
